northwest sauce

Last Friday a heavily anticipated northwest swell was supposed to hit. It didn't.
Blacks had a few sets, but everywhere else was showing chest high sets. This is John Daniels, Rod Stadelman, Kahana Kalama, and Tyler Reid doing there best to give me a few shots at Torrey Pines.

aqua es muy bueno

The season is just about here. High pressure and offshore winds, north swell, colorful sunrises and sunsets. Shooting surfing from the water is my favorite way to shoot hands down. I know there are a ton of great photographers out there, but not all of them get in the water.

With more factors necessary for a good water shot, I'm happy if I get 1 keeper per session. My favorite wave to shoot is anything big and hollow. It takes effort from both the surfer and photographer to sync up and make something happen. The following photos are a few I like from the past 3 years in the water. I'm still very new at this, but I try and shoot better each time I get in the water. Also, be sure to check out 3 of my favorite water photographers Scott Aichner, Brian Bielmann, and Damea Dorsey.

Peace

Blu in Berlin...DOPE!

Sunday Cinema - James Mcknight

James McKnight shredding the infamous vista mini at Kyle Carnohan's compound. This footage was shot about 2 months before completion of the ramp, but James still managed to get a few clips.

2 Clip Tuesdays

Sean Brown will be starting off 2 Clip Tuesdays with some old footage of him shredding the Pala Pool. I know, it's more than 2 clips, but Pala deserves more recognition.

Dance Party

Seriously how fun are weddings? With a possible new career of shooting wedding photography and all my friends getting hitched, 2009 is definitely setting the record for my wedding attendance. The best part of a wedding (in my opinion) is without a doubt... the dance party. I think I might just start crashing weddings for the sake of a good dance off. Saturday, my brother's best friend got married and they gave me the pleasure of shooting the video. My photography partner James Tull shot the photos, but when the sun went down and the decibels went up, I switched to my still camera and grabbed a few light streaks. Here is a mini collage of the evenings best Michael Jackson impression.

If you like ear candy, you should check out the band Album Leaf. Here is a mini documentary on them... pretty sweet.

Free Fridays - James Tull

My long time shred friend and photography partner James Tull is the first candidate for Free Fridays. He interned at Transworld Surf, has traveled North South East West, and has always had a pencil in hand creating art. Check out his blog here and his site here.

Joe's Ford Woodie

Here are some photos of a long time family friend Joe Anderson's Ford Woodie he rebuilt and sold a few months back. Amazing looking vehicle. If you're ever crusing around Oceanside I'm sure you'll see a few of these rolling around. One just might happen to be one of Joe's.

Buc-N-a

Yesterday my girlfriend Rachael and I went down to the beach to drink coffee, shoot some video and take some photos. Turns out... my girlfriend is some underground photographer that nails the shot whenever she has a camera in her hand. I got some clips of Losness and she got this sick shot of Chris Abad. Check out more from her and Transworld Surf photo editor Aaron Checkwood here.
